Liza Mehlfeldt is a German-Norwegian photographic artist, born in Berlin and raised on the west coast of Norway.
With a BA in Art Direction and a higher professional degree in Photography, her practice explores identity,
migration, belonging, and the ways in which place shapes our understanding of home.
Drawing from personal experience, family history, and the landscapes she inhabits, Mehlfeldt
approaches migration not only as an act of moving from one place to another, but as a condition that
can continue across time and generations. Her work often moves between the personal and the
collective, using photography to examine what it means to belong to more than one place,
while never feeling entirely rooted in either.
Nature plays an increasingly central role in her practice, not simply as a backdrop, but as a space through
which ideas of belonging and rootedness can be reconsidered. Her ongoing project Rotløs (Rootless)
explores her relationship to the Norwegian landscape following her return to the west coast, questioning
whether rootlessness is inherent to displacement, or something we as humans impose upon it.
